About Us

FIRE ON ICE IS LIKE NOTHING ELSE!

Ultimately, how players perform in game situations is the most important skill they can possess. And while development of skating and stick skills is extremely important, how players apply those skills in game situations is even MORE important. Most development camps attempt to teach the physical skills, but do not teach the player when and how to use them in games! Further, they completely ignore the psychological aspect of competition. The result is a player who has acquired physical skills, but cannot implement them under the pressure of actual game competition, which is when and where performance is ultimately judged.

We start with closely-monitored game situations, and evaluate each player to determine which physical and psychological skills need attention to improve their game play the greatest amount in the shortest possible time. By fully integrating the development of physical skills, mental attitude and the game situations in which those skills will be required, we help players make physical and mental changes to improve their performance under the pressure of game competition... not just in practice!

The breakdown of this teaching is tailored to the individual player, but in our experience, we have found the split to be generally equal. This method of integrating physical skills with game play mentality and game situation understanding creates a synergistic effect, where the end result, the whole, is actually greater than the sum of its individual parts. The difference in actual game play can be remarkable. The most common feedback we receive is, “… a completely different player!”

We do not rely on tricks or gimmicks. By keeping the groups small, we are able to address the needs of each player individually and provide players with universal physical, mental and game skills to help them unleash far more of their potential than they previously ever have. We call it the FIRE on ICE “Tripod”…

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

  • Maximum edge & puck control are vital to excelling at any competitive level.
  • There are fewer and fewer substitutes for these skills at each successive level of play.
  • We believe in teaching these skills through a customized, player-specific approach.
  • We do NOT believe in supervised ice-time!!!

PSYCHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Each player has certain psychological strengths and weaknesses.
  • Our goal is to maximize the strengths and minimize the weaknesses.
  • We help players find the “switch” that takes their game to the next level.
  • Yogi Berra said it best: “90% of the game is mental; the other half is physical.”

GAME IMPLEMENTATION

  • The ability to perform skilled moves at high speed in game situations is crucial.
  • Ultimately, each player’s goal is to make something happen, regardless of whether or not they have the puck.
  • The combination of physical skills and the confidence to use them is the key to success. One without the other does not produce the required results.
