Despite playing and coaching for over 20 years, MATT BALANDA has had a very unusual hockey career. In fact, he did not even play competitive hockey until the age of 13! This late start put him far behind his peers and required that he develop at an extremely accelerated rate. Through hard work, perseverance and the help of a dedicated father, Matt was soon competing in the U.S. Olympic Development programs and eventually played several seasons of Junior A hockey before finishing up his college career at local Division III power, Babson College. He has coached players ranging from Mites to those at the college level and has taken Select and prep school teams to regional and national championships. Most importantly, Matt’s uncommon passion for teaching the game and his unique ability to communicate and motivate has helped players achieve levels of improvement previously unattainable.

Like his fellow coaches, COLIN GREENHALGH has been intimately involved in the game of hockey for over 20 years. A product of the Mass Satelite program, Thayer Academy and ultimately the Noble & Greenough School, Colin played with and against some of the best high school age talent the country had to offer. Amidst this high level of play, however, Colin had a tendency to defer to players he believed to be better than him to “make plays.” This mental obstacle prevented him from playing to his potential. It was not until Colin was able to consistently incorporate aggression, a high level of competitive spirit, consistent focus, and self-confidence into his game that he truly fulfilled his potential as a player. This steady development ultimately took him to Williams College, where he played for four years and captained the team his senior year.

PAT MUIR has also played and coached hockey for over 20 years. Like Matt and Colin, Pat did not always play at the elite level. In fact, it wasn’t until his high school years, when he put emphasis on his skating technique, that he began to bring together the tools required to become a complete player. His desire to excel took him to Canada, where he played Junior A hockey, and finally to Division I college hockey at St. Lawrence University. Pat’s passion and knowledge together allow him to teach and help others acquire the skills and techniques to elevate their level of play.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, Matt, Colin & Pat were not just talented hockey players… they know HOW they achieved their goals as athletes, students and young men. And they take great joy and pride in imparting that knowledge and experience to young men and women who are interested in working towards their athletic, academic and personal goals.
